The invention relates to a method and equipment for scrubbing of nitrogen oxides-containing waste gases. The waste gas is scrubbed by recirculation washing liquid containing a chelate of transition metals such as Fe (II) EDTA and the complex produced by the above chelate and/or the treated chelate of a transition metal are biologically regenerated in the presence of an electronic donor where the nitrogen oxide is reduced to molecular nitrogen. The biological reactor can be combined with a gas scrubber. The electronic donor is either hydrogen or methanol but it can also bisulphate which originates from the sulphur dioxide in the wastegas.12 claims, 5 figures
